Cats or no cats?
Cats or no cats?
I'm hearing alot of crap about catalytic converters and I for one want to get this straight, as I am putting a new exhaust in my car this weekend (hopefully).
the benifits of running no cats (btw i got coated lt hooker headers and summit's universal x-pipe exhaust) is obvious. the sound and having less back pressure (not good if your running a stock motor, but my car is getting garaged in about 5 months for about a year and when it becomes "ungaraged" I am rebuilding the motor).
A friend of mine told me that with 3" headers and a 2.5" x-pipe straight exhaust that I would have to little back pressure and my exhaust valves would cool too fast and I would run the risk of having them stick. That is until i get aftermarket heads/cams.
and of course i have other friends who said i would be fine. can anyone clarify this for me?
edit: i dont have emissions inspections

Re: Cats or no cats?
You should be fine without cats. You should have no problems with the exhaust valves either, because of the length of pipe you are gonna have. Apparently the exhaust valve problem is only an issue when you are running open headers or cutouts with shorties. That is my understanding anyway.
