Whats holding me back?

Got my car back together and running good with the new tune from Ion, but it doesn't feel a whole lot faster for some reason. I hear things like "pulls like a raped ape" and other things about this cam. Could my valves be too tight, could it be my stock coil and plug wires, I'm running auto light 104s gapped at .50 is this right...Maybe my buttometer just doesnt have enough sensitivity to tell if it is much faster. This is kind of a big disapointment and i would like to figure out what is wrong. Also im not running a stall converter(very budget limmited) would this make if feel alot faster?

BTW will be taking it to the dyno but i would like to firuge out what is wrong before i drive 2 hours to ft. collins.

thanks
james

Re: Whats holding me back?

That stock converter is hurting you... If you have a scan tool, hook it up and see if your getting any knock retard??

What all did you do with your home head porting?? How is that exhaust setup?? I'd bet your getting some Knock Retard, LT4 KM? A stall with a cam like that would probably set your buttometer to peg. And a dyno tune will put you were you want to be.

Re: Whats holding me back?

Ill download freescan an log some runs and get a dyno graph to Ion so that he can send me a better tune. Im saving up for a stall converter too. Maybe once i get some time ill readjust my valves and see if that helps.

thanks guys

Re: Whats holding me back?

Yeah The converter is messing you up. Same exact thing happened to my Chevelle. Its completely modified, from the 327 (.030 over + much more) to the 4:10's. For the first time I took a real GOOD look at the converter, the effin thing was stock! I know in my case the thing will feel like it wants to go, but something is stopping it. ATI will be building me a converter in a week or two so I can get this thing rollin. Do yourself a favor and invest in a GOOD converter. You will NOT be disappointed.
