Catalytic Ineffiencecy

My buddy has a 96 T/A and it throwing an SES light...we took it to AutoZone and got it scanned and it's says Catalytic Ineffiencecy on Bank 1. He has to get it Emisson tested in a couple of weeks so we ordered an O2 simulator and put it on the rear O2 sensor thinking this would get rid of the light! Well it didn't...how does the computer know there is something wrong if the O2 sensor in the back has a simulator on it!? Does it take a little while for the O2 sim. to work? Any ideas?

I went to Autozone today and got the same code. I'm getting ready to put LT's on and !cats so I'm not too worried about but I am curious about this question. Also, how do you reset the PCM?

Pull the PCM battery fuse and the PCM ignition fuse from the fuse panel in the drivers compartment. Wait a couple of minutes then put them back in, ignition off of course.

Is that better?
I've been meaning to change it! I just haven't been on the board in a while!
