Catalytic Deletion
Catalytic Deletion
Ok, thinking about deleting the cat from the car (95-Z). If I were to put a straight pipe in its place, would the computer see this as the catalytic not doing it's job and say 'check engine' or do some other thing. I know that in some cases, the computer uses the catalytic converter to meter the amount of fuel and air being burned so it can adjust accordingly. Any input on this is appreciated.
The only time you'd worry would be on an OBDII car (96+). OBDII cars have post-cat oxygen sensors to determine whether or not the cats are doing their job (would result in an SES, fixed with O2 simms), whereas an OBDI car does not. You won't get an SES light in doing so.
Ur Catalytic Converter has NOTHING to do with reading ur cars air fuel ratio. That would be the O2 sims, which come up in the Y-pipe area before the converter.
Ditch the cat. for sure if ur not worried about emissions. U won't have to worry about it getting clogged later and robbing ur performance, like it has for me. U shouldn't throw any codes from it either.
