Catalytic convertor. How far back and effective

Just wondering if there is a point to me even running a cat on my car.

Granted I have emissions testing and have roller test here so it is needed for all the people that say gut it or leave it off.

What I am getting at is will the cat heat up still even with it being so far back and be effective in its duty.

Hooker LT's with a y-pipe, After the merge at the y-pipe I was planning on placing one 3" cat there since if I put it in the y-pipe it will be to low.

Anyone running this or have a cat far back and till have it be effective?

TIA.
