Catalytic Converter questions?

Heya, I have a '97 Z28 and am needing to replace both catalytic converters. I've been looking for some decent flowing yet not pricey converters. I've seen on Ebay Eastern Catalytic Converters for a decent price but don't know if the universals will work with my car? I've saw alot of people say that CarSound is good, though again I'm unsure it'll work with my setup

So....I guess I'm asking is wether or not universal cats will work on my car?

Re: Catalytic Converter questions?

They're called universal cats because they need to be MADE to work on your car. A decent exhaust shop could do that for you.

I've had carsounds on both my Zs and they worked great. On the first Z, I got one pre-made to work on our cars and it was pretty expensive... I think I paid ~$180 or so for it. On the second Z, I bought one from ebay (universal) for like $35 and had the shop weld it in there. Worked great and much cheaper.

Ah, so there's no special type of cat I should have for any of them? Other than OBDII compliance, is there anything I should especially be aware of for purchasing these? I'm planning on getting the cats and then going to a shop to get them put on.

Re: Catalytic Converter questions?

Go on Ebay do a search for Carsound cats... i did a lot of research on this before i did cats.. Some testing was done with FLP, Carsound, Random Tech, and Stock LS1 cats.. The car sounds were the cheapest and out flowed all except for the FLP which were produced just slightly higher flow numbers. Tests were doing with a 2.5" cat.
Ebay has the carsounds for 35 bucks.. I dont use the O2's after the cats so i bought the cats without airtubes and without o2 hook ups.. Welded in and work great.. Did not quiet the car down any really.. which means they flowed a lot of air. just as loud as my Off road ypipe.. I needed the cats again to get rid of a rasp i had.. basically 1/2 my exhaust bypasses the muffler and the cats negate a nasty rasp.

Re: Catalytic Converter questions?

what about OBDI compliance, I have not found these, most carsound cats say they are OBDII or do not say at all.

Thanks

If you need a carsound cat call Jeff at 1-423-306-4259. You can ask him all the questions you need to know. He has both weld on and direct fit cats.

Re: Catalytic Converter questions?

If a cat complies with OBDII it will definetely comply with OBDI as well.

Re: Catalytic Converter questions?

So I haven't been able to look underneath (I'm a little to big to get under), but do we have the O2 sensors in the Cats or in the exhaust pipe?
