catalytic converter with pacesetter LT
catalytic converter with pacesetter LT
I was planning on getting pacesetter LT's with ypipe and hooker cat back. Now my only problem is that i will need a catalytic converter. We dont have emissions where i live but they do check to see if there is a cat on vehicles newer than 91. i wont pass if they dont see a cat. even if its non functioing thats ok they just have to see it. Will a cat fit in there between the ypipe and hooker cat back?
thanks for any help.
thanks for any help.
Re: catalytic converter with pacesetter LT
You could do it with one cat but typically if someone runs cats with long tubes they put on two in parallel directly to the headers and have a custom Y-pipe made. That's what I did. If you were to run one cat you would have to cut some of the I pipe off for it to fit. Also, you would have to do some welding. Also, although I know you're not concerned about emissions, the coverter needs to get hot to work, and the further away from the engine it's located, the less it's going to heat up. I don't know if the inspection people in Canada will care, but having a cat located way back there behind the transmission is kind of unheard of.
Re: catalytic converter with pacesetter LT
what kind of cats did you use? are there cheap and high flowing ones out there. no problem with cats fitting in there right after headers? do you have any pics of your setup or a similar one?
Re: catalytic converter with pacesetter LT
I hope you don't mind me jumping in on your topic here but I was just about to post a question on the same topic. I too am putting on pacesetter LTs and y-pipe. We don't have emmisions here so I was initially thiking of leaving the cts off and I don't want to cut up the y-pipe. Could I later on stick a high flow cat on the end of the y-pipe without hurting flow too badly? I'm getting rid of the emmisions stuff so programming won't be an issue I just don't want to be plugging my exhaust much.
Re: catalytic converter with pacesetter LT
I e-mailed a picture. That's not my car, someone else was kind enough to send the picture to me. You can see in the picture though that he re-used his stock cat on one side, and an aftermarket cat on the other side. This is not recommended at all. As far as the cats fitting and getting them on, just make sure to get ones the same diameter as the collector on your headers. It's probably 3 inch for Pacesetter as it is for Jet Hot. Getting them welded on and a y-pipe made; you're going to have to find an exhaust shop that will do the job. I paid a shop $350 to do it. The job was just lovely though, it looks a lot better than the one in the picture. Also, there is little chance anyone but a speed shop will be willing to do it..at least in the US.
