Question cat location

I have a 96 z w/ a A4. Where is my bank 1 cat and why does it always run like crap after I just wash it?

Just a guess, wouldn't the bank 1 cat be on the side of the engine that has the #1 cylinder?

Bank 1 is the driver's side. It's kind of hard to actually see the cat since it bolts directly to the manifold, but it's there.

Yep, #1 cat is on the drivers side (bank #1) It's kind of hard to see as it's bolted directly to the exhaust manifold.

The most likely cause for it running like crap after you wash it is an ignition problem. Bad ignition wires will short to ground easier when moisture is present. Don't forget to inspect the coil wire either. You may want to look under the hood, with the engine idling, in the dark, to see if they are arcing anywhere. The opti is also very sensitive to moisture so be careful about getting water anywhere near it.
