The "Cat"

Hey guys... for my birthday my parents got me new tips for my z28. well i want an aggressive sound also my the tips are 2.25" inlet and any other muffler has a 2.5" inlet or bigger.... so i was wondering if i took the cat off and put a pipe right there does anyone know if i would loose power.

Thanks Again. Appreciate it

Re: The "Cat"

Your check engine light will illuminate.
You will gain power
It will be raspier (louder)
to clear the light get a tune for no cat or o2 simulators.

Re: The "Cat"

If you remove the cat on a 1994, there won't be a check engine light. There are no rear O2s or cat monitoring with OBD-I, so no need for simulators. There is little power to gain just by removing the cat. A cat-back exhaust system would be of more value.

A borla cat-back is the main goal but... me being a junior in high school, it's not quite in the budget right now so i think that i will take the cat off and then put a cat-back on in like a year or so thanks guys

I agree that removing the cat is a bad idea.Back in 2010 i removed my Walker Hi flow cat & installed a Mac off-road pipe(s**** mod)& promptly lost 2 tenths! from my 60ft. times. My throttle response also felt worse.Unless your cat is plugged solid should you replace it & then you should be looking @ a Walker/Random Tech hi-flow unit!

There is no reason you would lose power by removing the cat.
