Exclamation be careful in the rain!

my friend and i were just having some fun in the rain.. i have never lost control before, but today we fish tailed back and forth a few times.. then i thought my car had regained traction.. well we started to go to the left again and i couldnt recover in time.. we hit the center divider at about 40 mph and jumped into the opposite lane of traffic. i was scared ****less that we might have caused some body and frame damage, but we checked it out and there are just some minor scrapes where we slid across. car still runs fine and alignment is still good.. but this could have been MUCH WORSE so i'm done driving like that because no matter how good you THINK you are.. even the best sometimes lose control. learn from my lesson guys!

The only time I lost control was when I didn't even try... I guess there was some water on the ground from the car wash at the gas station, going 20 in second gave it a little gas around a turn and there I go hopped over the center divide (really low curb) and ended facing the opposite way I was which was nice because I was going the right way of traffic but that was the only plus. My alignment was shot to hell.

Rain is another story, fbod's and rain and throttle do not mix well.

AMEN!! Brotha!

After the first month of owning my car (about 3 years ago). I got brave in the rain (or should I say stupid). Lost complete control of the car and it spun around a few times and hopped a curb. I ended up on someone's lawn. I barely missed their fence by 1 foot. My car was not damaged but there was some dirt was shoved between my wheel and tire. I drove the car home and Even though I still drive my F-Body in the rain, I have a lot more respect for the power of these cars in the rain. Thank God I was not hurt or someone else either. And I am very lucky that I did not ruin my car after one month of ownership. Now with the 383 and blower, I have even more respect for this car and will never try anything stupid in the rain. (you live and you learn)

Thanks,
Claude

wow, the great thing about these cars is everything underneath is pretty flush and sits just a tad lower than the body. i was worried that i may have damaged the exhaust or something, but luckily the frame was the only thing that scraped and it was more of sliding than like a dead on impact.. we basically grinded the center divider like a skateboard would a rail and it was only for a split second. i'm just glad my alignment and everything is still good, but like you guys said THANK GOD i didnt hurt anyone in the opposite lanes of traffic, or myself.. or my friend in the car with me for that matter.

i lost control once. the easiest way to gain control is to take your foot off the gas, do not brake.

coulda been worse? my friends vette fell off the back of his tow truck, went across 4 lanes of NYC area traffic, hopped up a curb and 1'' stopped before a tree.

His dad and his body shop guy were laughing. he wasn't.

damn trey that sux, hey kcz28.. i know man i was stupid to brake.. but it was just my instinct cuz i wanted it all to stop! haha, but seriously.. i tried to correct first but it was just too late so i really had no choice but to slow the car down before impact to lessen any damage as much as possible. dude trey.. if that happened to my vette i wouldnt be embarassed to shed a few tears

well to be honest bro in my opinion u deserve to have gotten some expensive - lesson learning damage for being so stupid as to play in the rain ESPICIALLY with some1 else in the car.
also if u never lost control b4 then your not driving your car to its potential. and a lil pointer .... dont hit the brakes when your not in control of the vehicle. dont take my post to heart tho dude, just dont play in the rain.

For you guys that go around and hop on the gas in the rain:

Use some common sense!!!!

It's pretty obvious that with the torque these things make that just a tiny amount of throttle is going to break the tires loose.

And I agree with the above; you should have gotten an expensive lesson about screwing around in the rain, but you got lucky.

I'm not trying to be an a** or anything, but come on.

Glad you and your car are ok. That could have been much worse. At least though you get the chance to learn a lesson without wrecking your car.

Man, I drove up the CA-57 Saturday Morning, and saw 3 wrecks:

1. A Ford ranger jumped the center divider and got caught up on the concrete, luckily (probably) saving his life.

2. About 1 mile further down a black Mustang (Not sure what engine) pointed backwards in the carpool lane.

3. On the 210 heading east, by the 605, there was a car sideways, managed to stop the leftmost 3 lanes of traffic.

All I can say is
Bridgestone Potenza's = in the rain

My Fiancee was right behind me and she said the Sumitoma HPS + tires she had did a pretty good job as well.

There was a good 1/4" of water on the road (IE the entire road was flooded)

I too was very fortunate when I learned my lesson. It had rained for like 1 minute afterschool, and it was verylight, hardly noticable. anyways, I go to take my friend home, we hang out at his place for a while and he shows me his car, and his dads. anyways, he said for us to go up to the OHC house(OHC is the local ricer shop). so we go up there, and I do a little burnout to make my presence known. I didnt let off the gas early enough when I was making my left turn, so next thing I know, back end goes to the right, I try to correct, it goes way to the right, and Im heading straight for the curb. I ended up going up the curb, taking all 4 wheels off of the street. Luckily it was a low curb that was rounded, and not square like. Plus, where I "landed" it was just shrubbery(next to a hill side). the damage..2 bent tie rod ends, and the very bottom of the driver side bumper is scuffed, barely noticable though. the underside is pretty scratched too. one of the many things to happen to me for me to live by the quote in my sig
