CAREFUL JACKING UP MOTOR!......please read

just a warning for everyone

like many of us........i had to jack up my motor to install my jethots.

while i was there, i installed a new passenger side motor mount because the factory one was really crushed.

overall i only had to jack it up about 2 inches

now my t56 seems totally screwed..........its VERY difficult to push the shifter into reverse

5th and 6th gear dont exist anymore.........wont let me find either gear.

it shifts fine from 1-2.....but wont shift into 3 unless i are under 2000rpm........if i go over 2000rpm it wont let me back into any gear except 4th, unless i let the clutch out and wiggle the shifter

also, my speedometer only reads 15-20 when im going 40-45

unless anyone knows better...........im guessing that i bent/crushed my shift linkage , and possibly pinched/crushed the wire that controls the speedo.

ill take it to my friends transmission shop asap and find out.

any guesses?

Did you take the shifter off when you jacked up the motor? Couldn't that have gotten caught up on the floorpan and pulled out some?

Did you unbolt the trans from the cross member? That could have caused damage if not.

no i didnt take it off..............i searched to board before doing it, and no one ever mentioned that.

a mechanic i talked to said he had seen this happen before when people jack the motor to change motor mounts.

no i did not........once again........when i searched the forum, it seemed everyone else didnt unbolt theirs.

i think the problem is that i jacked it up too high, other people must not have had to raise theirs as high as mine.

i had to jack up my drivers side when i was doing my slp's and i didn't have any trouble. Although after my motor install for some reason my speedo is off by a few miles an hour and it wasn't before so if you find out what is causing that please let me know.

i highly doubt you screwed the tranny internals up from just jacking the motor/tranny up.

where the hell did you jack it from in order to crush wires?

You mention you had to go much higher than others. Did you have the car high enough in the first place? my car only took an inch or 2 of raising for the LT to clear the head bolt.

I didnt unbolt the tranny mount or shifter when i jacked mine. Also did you replace the drivers motor mount? you should replace those in pairs.

i jacked the motor up via the oilpan, with a piece of wood under the pan.

i jacked it up about 2 inches

i replaced only the passenger side mount........the driver side was in better condition.

Like someone said earlier.....check the shifter....if it is a stock one it would be easy to screw it up if you put alot of pressure on it.

Is it possible you crushed the wiring harness against the top of the tranny tunnel at the back of the engine?

i really really doubt you busted up the internals of the tranny. How would that be possible?

Im thinking that you had unseen problems with the tranny before and now they are starting to show. Stuff can happen overnight, my syncro for 6th gear just stopped working overnight.
