carbing my lt1
If you were starting from scratch and building just a race motor I would say hell yea go with carb. Its cheaper from that standpoint. You already have FI on the car, just leave it that way and learn about it. Yea it can be confusing at first but the computer is pretty smart and you can teach it new things. It gets better gas millage than a carb will and even adjusts itself when the weather changes.
As far as the cost of new injectors, TB, aftermarket manifold, and a tune
1. You don't need new injectors until you are over 350whp.
2. The stock TB will support at least 400whp
3. People are making plenty of power through ported LT1 intakes.
4. A mail order tune will cost you $180 or so. See how much it costs for you to take your car somewhere and have someone tune your carb.

i've had my computer tuned so i know how much it cost
i was commenting on an early post that said instead of gettng a carb just upgrade your FI.... which would include all of the things i listed and to make 350hp all you need is baisically a 50 shot, or the equivilant bolt ons
so say you're serious and get heads and a cam and you're on the bottle, bam thats three not so major upgrades that are going to take you past 400 and negate your stock FI, yeah if you have a K&N filter insert there is not a reason for a carb however if you do the baisic mods that everyone does to these cars you're going to hit the stock fi's limit very quickly
also it costs me about $10 for new carb jets and free to turn the distibutor and adjust the floats
it'll probably cost you about 700 to have your fi properly tuned,
i mean i tink a dyno and some computers are a little more pricey then a screwdriver and some floats, but thats just me
and for all of you that are going to say you dont need dyno time to tune your FI thats fine i was commenting on the proper way, but buying the cable and the program for your laptop is still more expensive then tuning a carb
damn people no need to get into a pissing contest here, debate away but be civil about it, if your going all out race car carb is prolly the way to go, but if your going carb there is no reason to stay with the gen II, throw a gen I sb in there and the head choices are unlimited. yes in a street car the efi will allways be nicer and maybe make more power. Its their car let them do what they want with it, if it doesn't work out they can put the stock stuff back on and go from there... just my 2 cents
Thats the thing. He comes on here asking for advice from people, then when they say what he doesn't want to hear he gets pissed off.
im not the original poster, i wasnt asking any advice, and i wasnt trying to sound pissy, i didnt mean to come off that way sorry guys i was just offerening my opinion and used some facts to back it up, i apoligize
