Carbed SBC Conversion Info NEEDED!!!

I am in the process of putting a Carbed Stroker motor into my 95 Trans Am. And, I am having trouble finding anyone that has done this same thing. So, I'm hoping that someone on here has done the conversion or might know where I can get some info on it.

The main thing I am wanting to know about it the wiring harness itself. I am trying to get rid of as much of the B.S. as I can, but I still have to have my headlights, taillights, dash lights, etc working and I was hoping I could get some detailed directions on what to do without just going in and hacking the **** out of everything.

Also wondering if there are any "suprises" along the way with installing the motor or anything like that.

I've already got the BMR K-Member for the SBC conversion so that part is out of the way. Any info will be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Matt

Thanks for trying to help, but whoever told you that or wherever you heard that was totally incorrect. The distributor sits directly under the windshield and there are no clearance issues that I know of with the dist. at all. Shouldn't even need a cowl hood to clear the carb either.

Thanks tho!

The distributor fits under the cowl, until you need to remove it.

Most of your sensors should be wired directly to the sending units. As long as you don't hack into them, you should be fine. Just remove the computer than the wiring harnesses connected to it.

Well, normally it isn't a very common thing to have to take the distributor out very often. And its only 6 bolts to drop the motor out so thats not a biggie. I can drop the motor out of the car and have the distributor out faster than I can put plugs & wires on an LT1.

The computer is already out of the car and all the wiring that goes to the engine is just dangling over the fender well. Problem is this, alot of the wires that go to the inside of the car are mixed in with some of the wires that go to the engine harness so I can't figure out what the hell is what. Same goes with the headlight wiring.. Its all mixed up and hard to tell what is going where.

I feel your pain. I replaced the passenger side wires in my TA the other day and it took me longer to do those 4 wires than it usually does to change the plugs. I didn't do the driver side cause I would have to remove the blower. Luckily those weren't burnt like the other 4 were.

Yeah, the first time I put plugs on my LT1 I thought I was gonna freakin shoot myself. I don't know how long it took me, but it was freakin rediculous.

Thats why I'm going carburated. I am ready for cheaper parts and 100% simplicity.

I've got a carbed 383 already with a set of worked Vortec 350 heads, 650 solid lift cam, 11:1 Compression, and a Big Shot plate kit with a built Turbo 350 with a nitrous stall converter so it should move on pretty good when its all said and done.

A Carbed 383 compared to a LT1 EFI 383 is SIMPLE! And when you get rid of every single thing except for the motor itself then its even more simple.

NO A/C, NO P/S, Elec. W/P, Manual R & P, NO ABS, NO Computer, NO Wiring Harness, etc etc. It can't get much easier than that!

True, but then it's only good for drag racing. Where's the fun in that?

Its still got the cd player, full interior minus the back seats, still has heat, all the lights work on it, etc. And it won't need power steering since I'm running skinnies on it and who needs a/c with t-tops!

Just cause its got all tubular suspension, coil overs, carbed 383, nitrous, automatic with a stall, 9in rear end, skinnies up front, and a roll cage don't mean I can't drive it to work!

Hell, driving a car thats built like that is "FUN" any way you look at it to me. Street or Strip its still a blast and turns alot of heads on the street or at the track too.. Especially when they see a carbed 383 with a plate kit sittin off in a 95 Trans Am rollin around town with a solid roller cammin like hell out the Borla Cat-Back...

Can't argue there. I would still miss my AC when it's lunch time and 100+ degrees outside.

Yeah, I drove the car everyday for about 10 months without air and during the summer. It was a pain in the *** sometimes, but I dealt with it. If you keep the t-tops out and haul *** everywhere you go then it stays pretty cool!

But, it was my everyday driver then and now its just gonna be a weekend ride and maybe a few trips to work during the week sometimes.
