Car wont turn over somtimes unless i push the clutch in and out a couple of times

Car wont turn over somtimes unless i push the clutch in and out a couple of times
I dotn know sometimes the car will turn over just fine and other times it wont start unless i hold down the clutch and then turn the key off then on. what could be the problem?
