Car won't start... smoke coming from starter wire

I was trying to start my car the other day and it wouldn't start... it wouldnt even make a noise. so i kept trying to start her (m6) by turning the ignition and finally she started. this happened again, and on the third time it happened, i noticed the smell of something burning and quickly found two wires under the dash burned together. its a purple and a yellow wire. the guy who put the alarm in my car told me those wires went into a relay for the starter, to disconnect it from the relay and connect them together, so i did. the car started, but after turning it on and off a few times, it wouldnt turn on, and the wires started to smoke again. any ideas on what the **** is going on? LOL

starter is probably bad, drawing too much

may also be the purple wire has an intermittent short to ground under the hood

BTY, yellow if off the ignition switch, and purple if from the neutral safety switch or tdr to the starter

i dunno if it matters or not, but i had the alarm installed not too long ago, and what first made me realize something was wrong with the car was that the alarm sounded really weak. then thats when the **** started happening with the car not wanting to start, then burning the wire.

do u think i need to replace the starter, or is there someting else i could try incase its not the starter?

is the yellow wire supposed to be connected with the purple one? the purple one gets REALLY hot before it starts to smoke. what can i do to test to see if it's the starter, or if its a short in the purple wire?

disconnect the purple wire from the starter, and try it again

while you are under the car, inspect the purple wire (as far as you can see) for and spots rubbed through, etc.

as for those two wires being connected, they are normally connected when trying to start through the TDR(theft detterant relay), as long as they as the wires I am thinking they are, are they both about the same size, and large for wires?

yeah they're thick wires. the guy who installed my alarm told me to take them off the relay for the starter kill switch or whatever it is, and connect them together. but after starting the car a few times that **** got SOOOO hot. like, i can actually see the wire move when i hear the click, and i can see the smoke come out the end of it where it connects with the other wire

just looked at it again. he spliced the yellow wire with a brighter yellow wire and connected it to the relay, and then spliced a purple wire to the relay to connect back to the other end of the original yellow wire. i put the purple wire and the bright yellow one together (which is like connecting the yellow one back together) like he told me, but the car still wont start. wont even make a click. but i can see the wire, that **** SMOKES, it even gets red. u think there's a loose ground or something? lemme see if i can get under the car now
