Angry car wont start after opti install

Well I get it all done and go to crank it, btw its being jumped because the battery was dead from sitting for a couple months, and CLICK click... like the jumpers werent positioned right or it had a bad connection so I try it again and nothing and try it again 47 times and nothing adjusted the cables 10 times and nothing even though everything works, fuel pump primes, gauge says its got lots of voltage, headlights work, etc.... but the starter wont do anything now not even click like the first time. Could the battery be so dead that it would do as described? I get this far and this bull**** just destroys a good night, I was actually having fun doing maintenance work on my car.... What the hell could be the problem NOW????????????

Starter! Have you tryed sticking a rod between your manifolds\headers, and try beating on the top of the starter? or crawl underneath and smack the front of the starter with a hammer. Then try and turn it over. If it cranks then it's your starter may be going out. but then again GM starter's Are the most tempromental things on the planet. So if you just smack it once it maynot act up again for awhile. Or just switch your tumbler to the "on" position and try grounding out the starter.

Depending on what is wrong with it, a bad battery may not work even if jumped. Swap another known good battery in there.

well its all corroded in the terminals so maybe that could be wrong, but I still dont see why it wouldnt even make the starter click but still work all the headlights and junk... but I dont know crap about electical systems either. I guess Ill go bang on the starter couldnt hurt anything to try it lol....

Re: car wont start after opti install

My f150 did that a couple of weeks ago. Turns out the wire connections to the starter were somewhat loose/corroded. It would just click too, but there was enough voltage to run the lights/radio/etc. just fine. Wiggled the wires around a bit and it started right up, then did the same thing about a week later. I pulled the wires off it, cleaned them up good, smeared on a little dielectric grease and tightened them back up.

Shoebox is also right about a bad battery not working even if jumped. Also, clean up your battery terminals. You may be getting a connection there that just isn't strong enough to crank the starter. If nothing else, it's cheap insurance.

Try tapping on the starter with a hammer too.

Re: car wont start after opti install

like the others said beat on it with a hammer if it was sitting for a few months the bendix gear could have froze up or worse case the starter silinoid<sp> could be bad from sitting and getting moisture in it

Re: car wont start after opti install

Well I dont know what happened but we push started it once and of course it started and we ran it till it reached operating temp for a minute or so and shut it off for an hour or so since it still didnt start or anything. Then we push start it again just to go for a drive since I missed the hell out of it and almost couldnt stand the thought of having to do something ELSE to it to make it daily drivable and took it to the gas station. For the hell of it I thought I thought I would try it one last time and DUHDUHDUHDUH BOOM it works... no idea what was wrong or how it fixed itself but whatever it starts consistantly now and I am beyond happy. Thanks everyone for any help you gave!
