Car wont start
Car wont start
Today I was driving down the road and my car started kinda dying on me like it was running out of gas and then started to putter and shut off and wont start again. Fuel pump is kicking on I think it may be a clogged fuel filter or fuel injectors, it seems like to me its not getting gas. It turns over fine but just wont start. My security light has been oin for a while and I know that could cause it to not start but would the car turn over at all if it was the security thing? Please help any idea what it could be
Definitely check the fuel pump, fuel filter, and see if you have fuel pressure. That would be my first guess, at least. If it's not that then I guess you could check fuel injectors, etc. I'm not sure if I really think it's that, though. Any codes?
Theres a valve on the back of the intake and when pressed it should shot out fuel and its shooting out great, so fuel pump and filter seem ok. Fuel injectors I dont know how to test, any ideas? and when I went to get it scanned for codes a couple months ago they said they didnt have the right scanner for my car at advanced auto so idk where to go. when I try to start it, it cranks but wont start then when I let off the key its like diesels and kinda liek runs/puts?
Check your injector relays and those systems. How's all the connectors looking, etc? They're cheap ($20) to buy. Also, I wouldn't rule out the fuel pressure quite yet, but that is doubtful. Here's a Wiki on testing the fuel injectors:

There are no injector relays. Power goes directly to the injectors and the PCM pulses ground to them when it wants to fire one. Therefore, if you check anything it would be the #9 and #10 fuse under hood. But that is not your problem. It sounds as though you are flooding.
First thing to try is floor the accelerator while cranking and see if it fires up. Don't crank it for more than about 10 seconds. If that does not do it. Remove the fuel rail and see if it's firing all the injectors. Or if any are dripping when power is off.
If it's not firing the injectors while cranking, it's time to buy a scanner. If it is firing the injectors, it's time to pull the plugs and check for spark.

True that. I wasn't aware that the Z28s didn't have injector relays. Dangit with always working with the newer cars until now! :-/
A fuel pressure test gauge. Screws onto the Schrader valve. Or a dash mounted fuel pressure gauge - can never have too much information.....
