Question Car won't go when I hit the gas.

I'm pretty sure its the clutch, but not that sure. When I'm in any gear already and I floor it, the rpms just go up without increasin the speed of the car. However, I can drive the car normal and it works just fine. If I try to race it, it smells like burnt brakes. Whenever I come out of gear into neutral, I get a vibration until my foot is completely off the pedal. If I try to downshift I get a vibration going into gear before I release the clutch. When I take off from dead stop in first gear, when I hit about 5mhp to 10mph, I get a grinding noise. What is wrong here? Throwout bearing, clutch.....?

So all those vibration noises are clutch-related? And btw, what else do I need to change while I have the transmission down?

Don't forget you will need to resurface the flywheel when you do the clutch. You might as well replace the rear main seal while you've got the trans out too since you have a lot of miles. You also will want to replace the pilot bushing. I put in a roller pilot bearing instead of a bushing but either one will do.

a new throwout bearing as well, and you might even want to change out the tranny mount depending on how old it is.

yea its the clutch! the stock clutch disk broke when mine went. Lasted 112,000 miles amazingly. When i put it in first gear, and let the clutch out...it began grinding first gear like it wasnt in gear!!! ~PITA~

so i went with Slp's clutch kit. Paid 330$ brand new, included clutch Disk, Pressure plate/throwout bearing, and bought new piolt bearing from GM. Iam happy with it

What brand clutch do you have in mind for a new one?

New flywheel bolts and a new slave cylinder are a good idea when you replace the clutch.

I've got a Spec stage 3 kevlar unit in my TA at the moment, but when the big bad motor goes in, it will be a street twin.

I was just going to go with a factory clutch since my car is bone stock anyway. I plan on doing upgrades, but not for about a year.

How much will it cost to get the flywheel resurfaced? What tools do I need for the entire job?
