My car has been having problems as of late , that it will not start after it has sat in the rain overnight. But after a few days of clear weather it will. Could it be the optispark in anyway, shape or form? Or is it something else that i am overlooking? Please help, im going nuts.

What do you believe is happening? and would it be the whole unti that needs to be changed or just the cap and rotor?

 

I haven't heard of an opti having problems just from sitting unused in humid conditions. Maybe if it was already damaged and really marginal to start with.

You don't give any info on the condition of your car, so it's impossible to diagnose, but I'd start with the basics - plugs, wires, coil, etc.

 

Sorry about the missing information, Ive tested the coil to see if there is spark and there is. The optispark was changed about a year and a half ago, the wires and plugs were changed around a half year ago.

 

I have got the same story on my car and it is PATHETIC to have a car like this, run with absolutely NO problems, only to start acting up after a little pansey rain shower!! My buddies laugh when I gotta get a ride after my car melts away in the rain. I know its the Opti, but it was JUST replaced WITH THE WIRES AND PLUGS. Wtf??

 

I had the same symptoms on a 95 that I traded off. Car was a screamer until it got wet. Sometimes I could get it to start but only after quite a few tries. Once it got past the coughing spell, it ran like fire again. It almost acted as though the timing was way off or like it was dieseling like the cars used to do back in the 70s when you would shut them off.
