Car will not start after opti install......

My last opti was screwed because my vent tubes where hooked up wrong. So i buy a new rotor and top piece to the opti for $180 at auto zone and throw that on my car. Well now that car will not start with the new opti. It would at least start with the bad opti on the car and with the new one it just turns over thats it. On the bad opti the rotor was rubbing on the top part of the piece (part where the spark plut wires plug into) and i couldnt believe how the engine would even run.

yesterday when i was installing the new opti the little nipple that comes out from the engine that lines the timeing up to the opti was on the bottom so i wouldnt be able to line it up right with the opti unless i was underneath the car. So cranked the car over to where that nipple thing was on the top so i could line the opti up from the top of the car. I dont know if there is a way to screw up the timing on lt1s or not (unless you take apart the engine) but i dont know why my car isnt starting. Help please...thanks

Bobby

opti

I know it's a dumb question, but does it have spark? Your coil might of took a dump or not plugged in. Then if you have spark then your opti might not be aligned right. Like out of time. Just some ideas.

Yes the coil is pluged in. The engine is not getting spark so of course its not going to start.

You can check to see if the keyed shaft in the back of the opti is installed right (motor and/or opti side). Even though it's splined, the shaft can can go in incorrectly, cause the timing to be way off.

No, the timeing splint is not in the wrong hole. Do you know if the rotor and that hole should be pointing in the same direction? The rotor is about 50* in front of where the hole is. Even if they are suppose to be pointing in the same direction i dont know how to realine them correctly. thanks for the help guys.

You can use this to see if you are getting opti signals to the coil. Even if the opti is on wrong, you should still see pulses to fire the coil. If you have no pulses, check over the opti harness connections.

Figured you had it in the right hole

As far as lining up the opti - Once the shaft is in the back of the opti, basically, you have to eyeball the keyway on the motor and key on the shaft. Simply turn the shaft while in the opti to match the keyway in the motor, then try to stab it. You'll know when it goes on correctly. If you have to force it at all then it's not properly aligned.

Definelty, check to make sure you're getting spark, before you try removing the opti and checking the splined shaft.

I just went through this ordeal the last 2 weeks....I found that the plugs had fouled out due to turning it over so much....and that I had put the 6&8 plug wires back on in the wrong places...It wouldn't start and as soon as I checked the plugs and wires it started right up....Just something else to check....

Yeah, my plugs have gone threw some **** these past couple of thousand miles. But i took the # 1 cyclender plug out and grounded it to the exhaust manifold. Its not getting any spark. I dont know if that would be the sparkplug or the opti, i guess ill buy 1 spark plug and test it out. Otherwise i am going to have to buy the ENTIRE opti new again. Normaly i just bought the rotor and cap. Thanks for the help guys.
