Car turns but won't fire!!!
Car turns but won't fire!!!
I have a 1996 camaro. To make a long story short the engine will turn and turn, but won't start. I had a tech take a look at it, but because of the massive modifications to the computer system the instrument swill not read the codes. He said that the engine was not getting any fire and suggested replacing the icm. I did so, but it still won't start. Any suggestions?
Re: Car turns but won't fire!!!
same thing just happen to me.i also changed my icm and nothing happen.so my buddy who works at the dealership looked at mine and said it was the opti.changed it out and it fired right up.if you have had like cold starts or not so goodperformance lately then most likely its the opti.like i sqaid he changed mine and it fired right up.hope it helps
Re: Car turns but won't fire!!!
Any time you suspect ANYTHING is defective, test it first. Unless you are independently wealthy.
See if you have spark at a plug wire. If you want, use another plug and leave the original in the block.
Now check the coil for spark with a plug and it's wire since you can't hook a plug to the coil wire.
Now if the coil does NOT have spark, the testing begins. First check the 10A fuse #11 in the underhood fuse box to see if it's good.
Now using a multimeter, check the pink wire and the dark green wire on the coil and the ICM with key on for 12 volts DC. Use the black wire on the ICM as ground when you check so you will be checking the integrity of the ground to the ICM at the same time.
Now change the meter to AC and while someone cranks the engine, check from ground to the white wire on the ICM for the presence of 1-4 volts AC.
If there is no AC signal on the white wire, you need to confirm the opti is getting voltage to it and if the the hi and low res is going back to the PCM.
Let us know if you get that far.
Good luck

I will start testing tonight. I had a "professional" who knew nothing about modified cars look at it and I seem to remember that between all the who knows and I can't read the computer. He said that it wasn't getting spark, but that all the fuses were intack. I guess it could be the accel 300 ignition system that is on the car. what do you think?

either he doesnt know what he's doing, or you have some issue with the computer.
check your coil wire, coil and ignition modual.
