car is ticking and coating back of car with black soot
ok, i changed my oil before i left for ta nats. when done i turned off fans and let it get to 210. then turned them back on went to 175 and stayed and left it on. car started ticking and i thought it was just header bolts loose so i tightend them up. stoped for awhile about 150 miles away it started again and continued whole weekend. i got back sun at 6pm and back bumper is black as can be. it wont even wash off. can anyone help me? do you think i have blown gaskets? the cheap ones bbk gave me did not look good. i have been thinking i should get copper instead or do you think its a lifter or rocker i hate noises coming from my car this is driving me nuts please help me

The only thing I can see happening is when you started hearing the ticking noise it was an exhaust leak. So all the exhaust wasnt going past the 02 for correct readings. So the computer might have thought the car was running lean so intern richened up the fuel mixture.
