A couple of days ago my engine light came on while driving. Stayed on about 10 seconds, then went off. Since then this has happened about 3 times. Also, I noticed yesterday that the car seems to sporadically surge, almost like giving the car a shot of gas, when I haven't. I'm just driving along at a constant speed and the car suddenly jumps or surges. This was really noticable on a bumpy road.

I was told last year that my opti was on its way out. Could the behaviour I'm seeing be a result of a bad opti?

Any suggestions folks on what to check out???

Mine did this about 1 1/2 years ago. turned out to be the EGR valve...

You may also want to check for a vacuum leak..

 

Also maybe fuel filter.... Scan for codes since the SES light was on... Leaning more towards the opti..

 

mine doing exact same- exaclty- i scanned and got bad O2 on right side (low voltage) and EGR malfunction along with multiple cylinder misfires....


also im finding air in my coolant line randomly building up after this happens a few times causing my engine temp to rise to near 260 untill i bleed it then it will be fine for days...
