car stalled going through big puddle, what to do?
Last night there was some really really heavy rain and I had to make it home during it. It rained so hard that there were huge puddles everywhere, I turned around 3 times to avoid puddles and finally I decided to try and make it through one......bad mistake! My car stalled out half way through and I was stuck for about an hour till the rain stopped and a guy came out and helped me push it to dry grounds. I tried starting it maybe 10 times and finally it started.....it ran badly for about 1 minute and then after revving it up pretty good it calmed down and seemed to be back to normal. At first it had I think steam coming from tailpipes, but it could of been smoke I dunno, that has since after a day of driving gone away. So my question is, should I do anything to the car to be safe? oil change? just dont wanna hurt anything.....thanks
Well the car is running like a champ again....so nothing too bad happened. The water was pretty deep though and I think I may have sucked water in through the intake possibly and not sure but my exhaust may have been submerged at one point. To make it worse when I was waiting there for the rain to stop (was pouring so hard it was just rediculous) cars (suvs, trucks) kept passing me and friggin waves of water would hit my car and make it even deeper for the time the mini wave hit. If I did suck in water, could that have contaminated my oil?....my opti spark seems to be fine right now. Are you guys suggesting spraying wd40 into the intake btw? or just on the opti?
I had that happen on my '86 Iroc a few years back. Except mine wouldn't crank after the engine died. Turned out the water had made it all the way to the cylinders and hydrolocked it
Be sure to change your oil just in case, because if any water didmake it to your intake and into yourcylinders itcoulddrain out to the oil pan past the rings (ring gaps)
