Car shuts off when braking and stopping

Every time I come to a stop the car shuts off. Just driving for 3 minutes Ill hold the brakes to stop and the idle rpm's drop really low and shuts off. What could be causing this?

probably fuel related. I would go ahead and replace the fuel filter. When I had that happen to me thats all it was.

Your IAC (idle air control) could also be dirty or malfunctioning. It mounts in your TB.

Re: Car shuts off when braking and stopping

check your VSS (vehicle speed sensor)

if the computer see's no vehicle speed it thinks it is ideling.

when you are on the decel, throttle closed, it will run the IAC all way closed trying to bring the engine rpm down, but it can't because you are on decel.

On LT1 swaps I have done without an VSS hooked up I had that exact problem, and have watched it do it on datalogs.

By the time you slow down enough that the rpm goes to desired idle, the IAC can't pick up fast enough.

try coming to a stop with one foot on the gas holding the throttle slightly open. It will probaby stay running fine.

Could try your cruise..my bet is it won't work, because your vss is bad. or a wiring problem

good luck

VSS is hooked up. Speedo works although it's way off due to a rear end change but Ill take a look at it.

Fuel pump and fuel filter are new and fuel psi is at 39. IAC is the only thing I havent had a chance to check.

Re: Car shuts off when braking and stopping

Finally got the Datamaster to work. IAC count had to stay maxxed out to drive it. It surged and sputtered at part throttle, it jump in and out of closed and open loops, BPW mS reading was in the yellow, and I had DTC 15 cool temp low. Anyone here good at reading this? I'm about to throw it into VEMaster.

Re: Car shuts off when braking and stopping

Your coolant temp low code is the reason you're jumping in and out of closed loop. You may have a bad temp sensor (the one in the waterpump) or a bad wire or connector to the temp sensor.

During my 10 minute drive today the highest the temp got was 187. Here's the datalog:

Re: Car shuts off when braking and stopping

Just a thought, but I think a bad EGR valve can cause a car to shut off when coming to a stop. I had this happen to me on my old TBI camaro, Something else to check I guess.

Could the valve lash be to blame? Could it cause these issues?
