Car runs like crap after installing roller rockers
Car runs like crap after installing roller rockers
I installed roller rockers on my driver side today and now my car is running horrible. It shakes, it sounds different and my car feels like it is running at half its strength. I installed my rockers by doing the engine on method which by the way was a pain in the *** due to the oil leaking on the headers and then the smoke. Each rocker was turned a 1/4 past zero lash. I hope I didnt damage anything. What am I doing wrong? Why is my car running like crap? I live in the bay area in San Jose and it would be great if someone could come over and show me how to properly adjust my roller rockers.... Thanks

P.S does anybody have any tips on how to adjust the rockers while the engine is on and not get oil all over the place? My biggest problem was oil dripping on the headers and causing alot of blinding smoke

put towels next to the heads so when the oil shoots out the towl will catch it!
Re: Car runs like crap after installing roller rockers
jesus christ. Put the roller rockers on both sides first. Your roller rocker's are 1.6 and your stock ones are 1.5 I believe. So you're running bigger on one side than the other. That would explain the stumbling. You've got one bank running stronger than the other. That would be like buying a cam that is .500 lift on one side and .600 lift on the other side. Also, you probably have an lt1 knock module. You'll need an lt4 knock module with roller rockers.
Re: Car runs like crap after installing roller rockers
First 1.6 on one side and stock on the other won't cause problems like he is having.
Second, you don't need to adjust your valves with the motor hot and/or on. Let it cool down, take your time and do it right. Double check. Then you should be good to go.

Re: Car runs like crap after installing roller rockers
You tighten the rockers until you feel drag on the pushrod. You then turn the nut the specified amount(1/16, 1/8 etc.) and lock them down. They have to be at the right spot on the cam though.

I posted the dummy proof procedure for doing your adjustment....screw doing it w/ the motor running... this way takes a little longer, but you will only do it once. To do the poly locks, you reach zero lash on your pushrod, tighten the allen head as tight as you can, then give the outer nut (9/16 I believe is standard for poly locs on 3/8" studs) about 1/8 to 1/4 turn and your done...move to the next one~

Re: Car runs like crap after installing roller rockers
Try this.....
Unplug the coil wire to the opti so the car doesnt fire.
Have someone bump the engine.watch 1 set of valves at a time until you see both the intake and exhaust go completely flat(both will be even with the roller ends up and springs uncompressed) once they are both at TDC(top dead center) then spin the pushrod with your fingers and slowly tighten the polylock until it does not spin anymore(zero lash) after you reach zero lash give it about a 1/4 turn more. do each cyl. like this one by one then start the car and listen if any of them are tacking a little bit go through and lightly tighten the ticking ones.
good luck
