Car running hot after LT4 KM install

Reset the pcm when I installed the KM. Things were fine, idle was choppy for first 2 minutes, but the PCM learned and it smoothed out nicely. Drove around for 35 minutes, nice weather (72 degrees, nighttime). DEFINETLY much smoother throttle response/acceleration. Anyway, the other thing I noticed was the engine temp was running slightly higher then it used to. No big deal i thought, never got past the middle line on the temp gauge. Well today, it got to the top line before the red mark on the water temp gauge and now I'm worried. I need to cool this engine down! Cat is ~2 months old, and is NOT glowing after a hard 10 minute run, manifolds aren't glowing either. Any ideas? I'm going to go check the fans/radiator as we speak

Radiator is fine, fans working fine, though i did find a $200 snap-on impact socket set between the radiators that someone must have dropped in there long ago (lol) . Could this have something to do with thermostat (stock AFAIK). Maybe I need a new one, and if I do, should i get a 160 degree?

If it helps any, the car's running like a champ. Idles steady as a rock, and goes as well as it always has. The heat just baffles me

In general after ten minutes of hard driving things tend to heat up man. It is a cruel world isnt? :P Take a nice, easy, drive and watch those temps stay lower. Big engines make bigger quantities of heat. Sometimes even a stock motor and cooling system can have trouble keeping up after ten minutes of hard driving. Maybe you should service the cooling system? Just keep an eye on that gauge.

The temps weren't after the hard driving :-) That's at a steady cruise at 65 mph for ~15 minutes

I just beat on it to see if the cat was clogged. Seems like it's not... maybe I should have it cut out anyway.

It doesnt sound right... the needle all the way up to redline when cruising at 65mph... not right at all.

Mine never did that and I had the OEM thermo. When was the last time you bled the air out of your radiator?? or did a radiator flush?? It sounds logic the car would get hoter due to more timing allowance with the new KM. but its your car pingin?? that heat sounds abnormally high to me.

I have the 160 Thermo now its working real good never gets to the mid mark, you may try if you want to.. cant go wrong.

Have you checked your water pump? It could be a air pocket in your system too.

No pings, no flushes/air checks since I bought the car. Water pump and opti have 6k on them.

Put a scanner on it to see what temp the PCM is seeing. Could be the gauge sensor is shot.

Drove it 2 miles. From cool all the way back to red. 99% sure it's the thermostat. Never been changed, it's stuck closed. Picked up a 160 degree from autozone for $3.99. Will change as soon as motor cools

You know that the LT1 stat is different than the older SBC's. It will work but not as effectively. They cost around $20. Here's a pic.

no you dont...just get it reprogram from someone who has tunercat for free.....honestly, no need to spend $300 for lowering your cooling fans

If his thermostat is stuck closed... how do you figure programing the fans will help???

Let the man buy a 25 dollar Hypertech Thermostat (hint its not $300 dollar part). He can get better performance with it anyways and then he can program the fans to come on earlier using tunercat.

My 2 cents.
