car running hot

Hi, my car has been running warm the last 3 weeks or so. Granted that it has been 100+ here for about that long, i still think it should be running cooler than it is. The hottest it has gotten, was when i was doing a fair amount of stop n' go driving in town one night. Assuming that each bar on the temp gauge represents 25 degrees, my car was running at 235 degrees that night, (the fourth bar, right before the red line starts). But other than that it runs 210-220,(the middle bar) while driving through town. Whenever i'm on the highway, it usually runs just barely above the 2nd white line, or 185 degrees. Anyone know why it gets so much hotter in town. just cuz there is less air flow??

Re: car running hot

in stop and go traffic it is because of the lack of air over the radiator...

on the highway it seems to be about right. you could install a 160* stat which will help in highway driving. mine use to hover just over the 160 line.

i would reccomend a fan switch ($65 or so) or maybe having the fans reprogrammed to turn on sooner for the traffic. 235 is awefully warm to be running on any regular occasion.
