Angry Car revs by itself

Just did a cam and head swap, and now my car has zero hp. The computer was tuned PCM for less, so i know that is good. I went for a quick spin, and when i would let off the gas and push in the clutch to shift, the RPM's would jump to like 3000, and stay there until i engaged the clutch again to force the rpm's back down. Now that it is parked, i checked the oil, and it stinks like gas pretty badly. For some reason she is loading up pretty badly, and i bet it's washing out my cylinder walls too

Also, it idles, and rev's up just fine while i am parked. It spins all the way up to 5 grand and back down to idle just fine when i am not moving.

Any help would be great, i am completely stumped! What would cause my motor to rev like that all by itself??? Throttle isn't stuck

sounds like bad IAC or leak between TB/intake or intake/heads. Basicly air intake leak.

Air leak huh?? Why would this problem only show up when i am trying to move. It revs just fine while i am parked. Also, if i had a air leak, wouldnt it run lean, and not pig rich? I'm just trying to understand a lil more

Yeah a air leak would cause a lean condition BUT it's all in what the computer would look at. So if you have a air leak yes it would raise the RPM and actually make it run rich. The O2's would pick up the unburned Oxygen see it as a lean condition and throw more fuel into the engine to compensate henceforth causing a rich condition. But I don't know why it wouldn't run high at idle though. Did you change the injectors? I'm kinda stumped on that one. It sounds like a air leak but it "should" run a high idle if it was that. Also you part of the Minnesota F-Body club?

EDIT: Also possible your throttle cable is getting caught or the throttle plates aren't closing proper.

Yea it would run lean, still though, thats the only thing I can think of that would make it surge like that ...

Did you happen to check compression on all your cylinders ? I know it sounds dumb, but that could explain the power loss ... Especially since you jsut did heads/cam ... That OR something fuel related ... What pump are you using? How much pSI at the rails ? I dont know a whole lot about the injecter pulse times and how to tell if your "overworking" an injecter, but look into that, it takes alot less gas to rev up in nuetral than in gear so ???

I upgraded to 30# injectors. I called brian at pcmforless, and he said that it could be the throttle set screw. We did turn that screw out to make it idle right at first, so he thinks that i should move it back and see what happens. As far as the terrible loading up problem, i do still have the stock o2's, and they have 85000 miles on them. He said that maybe they are running a little weak, and making my car run pig rich. My water pump and opti and fuel pump were replaced last fall, and i've put about 2000 miles on them, so i know the opti and such are still in good shape.

I am going to be a member of minnesota F-bod club any day now....i just haven't gotten around to it yet. I plan on it though

I'm planning on replacing the o2's, resetting the idle screw, re-torquing the intake manifold bolts, and i picked up a new throttle body mounting gasket. I get 25% off, and i am due on a few of those things...hopefully it will work.

By the way, if some of you guys buy high enough volume, i can set you up with a commercial account....it starts off small, but can build into a pretty decent discount.

let me know if you are in the northern suburbs of minneapolis/st.paul
