Car is reving up and down without giving it any throttle...
Is this the symptoms of the TPS going bad? could it be a vacuum leak? the reason I am asking about the vacuum leak is I installed a air foil and took the top off the TB. The gasket didn't look too good when I put it back on. However it just does it every now and then. Not 02's they are brand new. New..opti plugs..wires..ignition module..basically all ignition is new.
Just thought this would bew a good post for some looking for symptoms of other than LT1 ignition issues..
what could this be?
what are the symptoms of the TPS going bad for other peoples reference...and mine :-)
thanks
Brad

Re: Car is reving up and down without giving it any throttle...
air is leaking behind the throttle blades on your throttle body that your computer dosnt know about, so it revs up, then your computer realizes it and tries to compensate so it revs back down, and it does that over and over again. my friends old civic did that after he changed the intake (yea hes a moron) and didnt put a gasket between the tb and intake cuz he was too lazy to run to autozone and buy a $2 gasket
Re: Car is reving up and down without giving it any throttle...
well no vaccum leaks I can find right now..what about the IAC? anyone have links or pics on the procedure to clean it? might have knocked some carbon loose installing the airfoil and it is caught in there...sound resonable?

Re: Car is reving up and down without giving it any throttle...
My IAC did that... i had to replace mine and it worked fine... I tried cleaning it and my car would only idle at 2200 after cleaning it.. lol... not good. bought a new one and called it a day.
Re: Car is reving up and down without giving it any throttle...(update)
well I took off my TB and cleaned the IAC and evetyhing else I could reach with carb cleaner and a soft bristle toothbrush. The inside was full of carbon and junk that I don't see how anything was working..I put it all back together and it is working much much better..then i looked at the air foil I put in and noticed it didn't have much of a gap for the IAC to get air in the inlet hole..so I took it back off and opened the hole up slightly with a grinder..put it back on..worked perfect..Just thought I would let everyone know.
Also would this effect gas mileage or just at idle>?
thanks for all the replys
