Car problems...fuel pump???

I can drive my car for about 3 minutes then it starts acting up.

It begins to stumble and stutter almost as if I am stalling. When I get to a stop sign and then start to put the car in motion it acts as if it is not getting any gas at all, even when I play with the clutch and gas pedal as if I was going to peel out.

It still acts as if it is going to stall!!!

I just fixed the overheating problem now I need to fix this problem before I can drive it around.

Any thoughts as to what is going on?

Please leave comments and advice.

Re: Car problems...fuel pump???

Well I took my car in 3 weeks ago and they said the opti was fine.

Of course they could be wrong!

WOW!!! Since I bought this car I have not been able to drive it more than 15 minutes without something happening to it.

I need this car fixed SOON!!!!

Send help... OR advice!!!

Well, you probably don't have a lot of money to spend on tools, but a multimeter, fuel pressure gauge and vacuum gauge would certainly be helpful right now. Sometimes having that stuff will also make you look like a hero to your friends as well. And compression and leakdown testers will always let you know whether your car really is kaput or not. I guess what I'm trying to say is you're going to need to post more info before you can narrow it down. As of right now it could range from a bad fuel pressure regulator to a plugged cat...

How much do these tools cost? (multimeter, fuel pressure guage, vacuum guage) I just maybe able to scrape up some funds

I really do not know what else to say.

I had a overheating problem. found the problem, it was a faulty heater core. I replaced that and the over heating is gone.

I replaced the plug wires, and the spark plugs, I changed the fuel filter, thermostat, oil, and air filter.

The car runs great for acouple of minutes. Then when it gets to normal operating temp (@180*) it begins to stumble when I accelerate and up shift.

WHen I come to a complete stop it it idles fine. BUT when I begin to put the car into motion the car begins to stumble or stutter.(only after the car has warmed up) ANd if I keep driving it like this it wants to stall and shut off.

This is what I experience with my car. I need some help)

Re: Car problems...fuel pump???

OK the only thing that I can think of that would make it only do it after being warmed up would be a sensor problem, but you should be getting a ses light if a sensor is having trouble.
A vacuum leak would do this as well but, it would have trouble when cold too..
Same with ignition wires and plugs, could cause the problem, but also when it is cold..
Was the car stock when you bought it?
What is done to it?

Hope this helps some!

Re: Car problems...fuel pump???

Yes it does help every little reply helps me

No I did not get the car stock.

So far what I know is that the car has had a water pump bypass hose put in (which I removed)
and connected back to the hoses coming out of the firewall which connect to the heater core.
The catalytic converter is gone, the only thing there is a metal tube which was welded in place.
The chevy dealership said that the sensors that are supposed to be near the cat converter are not there.
BUT the ones on the exhaust manifolds are still there.
The previous owner did something to the fan so now when ever the key is in the ignition (turn on or not) one of the fans is running.

The only thing I have put in that was different was a hypertech 160* thermostat and a Air foil on the intake manifold. Niether of these should be cauising any of these problems.

Re: Car problems...fuel pump???

how old are your o2 sensors?
when the pcm goes into closed loop after the car warms up it takes readings from the o2's and they could be bad

Re: Car problems...fuel pump???

the previous owner might not have altered when the fans come on...just a thought, but certain codes will cause the fans to be on all the time. if i were you, i would have the car scanned.

it seems that almost every problem ive had with my car seems to occur after the car gets to a certain temp...this might just be coincidence, but if i were you i would check the easier things first. (plugs, wires, coil, knock sensor)
maybe when messing w/ the heater core you hit the computer, and part of the harness fell out....i dont know. (this actually happened to me)

Re: Car problems...fuel pump???

I'm having this exact same problem. Was there any progress with this problem? It only happens occasionally, only when accelerating, and only when the car is warm. Any ideas?
