Car Problems

my car is idling fairly high when first started, will keep the rpms 1000+ in gear
and the transmission will not downshift regularly. the rpms will jump back
down once the car comes to a complete stop and is put into park or neutral
and let set for a second.

also I believe this IS related but the car will almost feel like it is having problems shifting sometimes.

btw when the car is in 4th gear around 50mph, accelerating between 2000 and 3000rpm is sluggish and car feels like it's "chugging"

please help

Re: Car Problems

I see in your sig that you descreened your MAF, have you done this recently, or had your PCM reprogrammed to compensate? Ive read that people that have done this had the the problems with their A4s.

Re: Car Problems

have you checked your TPS that sensor regulates your shift points and could be suppling the wrong amount of fuel at the wrong time also may relate to your high idle prolem

Re: Car Problems

will do, I figured it was something along the lines of tps/maf/map/iac

pretty much guessing it's some how incorrectly metering the air or
compensating and a bad shift occasionally is the corresponding result along
with high idle.

also maf has been descreened for a while

Re: Car Problems

my former car problems that I thought disappeared seemed to have reemerged

ok here's a list of the symptoms

-high idle at intial start
-backfiring when I let off occassionallly
-"chugging" from 2-3k rpm at 50mph in 4th gear(auto)
-no power from a complete stop, accelerates like I'm "rolling" onto the throttle
-occassional high rpm popping which results in a delayed shift
-bad gas mileage
-rich smelling exhaust

I will see if I can arrange to get a datamaster log pulled tonight
