Bad waterpump. Replaced with a GM OEM and everything works like it should. Thanks for the help.

 

Did you transfer the old thermostat to the new water pump? New GM pumps come with a new thermostat installed.

Also, if you did not properly refill and bleed air out of the system, the gauge will normally go high when the engine is not really that hot or you may have caused a steam pocket. If you also had a bad hose, you need to fix that, too.

 

I'd think the fans not coming on could be a problem. If you turn the AC on, does at least one fan come on? When you say i threw an engine light, is that the SES light? If so, you can scan for the code. Maybe the fan fuse popped.

 

the light came on because the gauge was pegged. I checked the fan fuse and it's fine. There is no fan running when i turn on the a/c.

I got the pump from carquest. I transferred the old thermostat to the new one which did not come with it.

Your fans should come on when the a/c is turned on. You need to check out why it is not doing that. You would have gotten a "Check Gauges" light when the temp pegged and not a "Check Engine" (unless there was something else detected). You can have it scanned to see if there are any stored codes, if needed.
