car is over heating
car is over heating
I was driving and my check gauges light turned on and I noticed my timp was extremly high. I have a 160 stat. and my fans are programed to run at a lower temp. Today I changed my thermostat and I still have the same problem, my fans also will not turn exept when I have my A/C on but I dont think that is the cause of my car overheating beacuse with the fans on the temp. still gets that high. Could it be a bad water pump that is not working and it is also messing with my coolant fans? I have a CSR electric water pump.... Thanks for any help.
Re: car is over heating
First of all, with the car cool check your coolant level and make sure it's ok. Hopefully you didn't blow a headgasket when it overheated. If it got hot enough to trigger the "CHECK GAGES" light then it must have been pretty damn hot. Next thing you need to do is turn the key on to a position where the water pump should come on, and see if it's circulating coolant. You can do this buy just taking the radiator cap off and looking in with the key on. You might have to start the car up and let the thermostat open before you see much circulation.
With the key on and engine off, can you hear the pump running? I'm not a big fan of the electric pumps. I had one cost me a motor, and I think it's just too much liability for a <10 rwhp gain despite what others say.

Under normal circumstances the fans not coming on would have nothing to do with your waterpump. However, I've been around electronics for a while, and know that sometimes things that you wouldn't think would cause a problem end up doing it. Depending on how you have that electric waterpump wired up, it could possibly be messing with the fans. How do you have it wired?

I.m not a fan of elect water pumps either. Too many problems with them to be used safely on the street.
I would first start with, putting on the stock water pump. then, I would try switching the relay for the fans with the fog lights. If both of the fans are not working, it might be a sensor or the relay. I would think that the fans are still good. it would be odd for both of them to go bad at the sametime.
