Car not starting... need help.
Car not starting... need help.
Ok, I installed a cam about 4 weeks ago (~450 miles ago). After that it ran fine and everything until last night or maybe 2 nights ago? It would startup cold and it would be hcoppy and surge a lot. Then once it got warmed up it was fine and ran like a raped ape.
After the first time the SES light came on it wouldnt start, replugged in the battery, and it wont start again. It fires, goes maybe 2-3 fires and dies. Feels like its not getting any gas. How can I check the fuel pump? Im afraid that is the culprit...
any advice is helpful.
thanks

I dont think you have to check the fuel pump I would check behind the intake manifold is there is a schrader valve were you can check fuel pressure.I would also check the plugs to see what shape they are in they may be fouled up.
Ok, what do I do w/ that valve on the back of the intake? I am hoping it isnt a fouled plug, I have mac shorties
but hmmm
It really feels like fuel, it fires quickly, but dies quickly too like it is choking or somethin...

You will need a fuel pressure gauge tool to check the fuel you will see a threaded nipplle schrader valve in the back of the intake.put some rags underneath the schrader valve and screw the fuel pressure tool on.It should be with the vacumn hose off from the regulator around 37 psi and 40 psi with it on guys correct me if im wrong.hope this helps you
This should answer most of your questions as well as give you some ideas
No start Diagnostic
please forgive the spelling errors, I am working on that

Not the fuel pump unless 39~ or so psi would mean it is out... it seemed a little low but not low enough to make my car not start. The car will fire 4-5 times(meaning 4-6 cylinders fire before i shut it off), but then it seems like it just dies.... when it is trying to idle, it is at 500 rpms and sounds horrible. I will have to check the rest today, but any ideas of where to start? I really am afraid of changing out those spark plug wires... but if thats what a mans gotta do thats what a mans gotta do
also, new plugs for a cammed car? Any plug better than another? colder/hotter, whatever?
also I am going to check the fuel pump relay today... where is that located on a 96? same spot as in your picture? the car seriously feels like its not getting gas... and i dont smell it like usual

anyone have any ideas on what to check? if I dont hear anything soon I am gonna go test for spark, change spark plugs and wires, and hope for the best... I'm startin to lean towards opti. What could have come disconnected on the opti that would cause it to idle at 500 and die? thanks again
