car has been dying, now dead

Over the last 2 months my car has been acting up. This started a couple days after taking out the wires for the 12 disc cd changer. Anyway it will start sometimes then die after runing for 5 seconds. But if I start the car adn drive off real quick it will be fine, but if idling it will die damn near everytime.
Now lately the dash lights have been flickering when I hit bumps, so if I hit the tape deck with lil force the lights come back on. Sometimes they will go dim for a few minutes adn when they do only the gas gauge stops working and goes down to E, but once I hit the tape deck the lights come back on and the gauge works again.
Another thing that I have noticed is that the charging system seems weak. When I come to an idle the car gets hot ( EWP) and the music starts to break up, but once I hit the gas, the music clears up.
Anyway what can I look into? I am at a loss and this is now my only vehicle.

well, fully charge your battery and see if its happy again.
If it is, go buy an OD pulley for the alternator (as long as you are sure the alt is working fine).

What are the symptoms of a bad ignition switch?
