car hard starts when warmed up?

Well my ta has gotten to the point that it starts fine when cold yet if you drive it for maybe 15-20 minutes it gets to where it won't start unless you really pump the gas, otherwise it runs fine any ideas?

Re: car hard starts when warmed up?

What do you mean by "pump the gas"? If you mean holding it to the floor, that would indicate a flodding problem, since putting the pedal to the floor puts it in "clear flood" mode. Other than that, pumping the pedal won't do much more than open the throttle blades and let more air in.

Is it possible you have a problem with the coolant temp sensor in the water pump? If that's reading too low a temp, it will start fine "cold", but will be hard to start "hot" because the PCM richens the A/F mixture for a cold start.

i had a similar problem. the cause turned out to be leaky injectors. when the car had pressure built up in the fuel line the fuel would leak out and cause the car to flood. after it sat a while the fuel would be all cleared up up and it would start right up.

What's a way to test for leaky injectors?

'm not getting any trouble codes so I really have no idea if the temp sensor is bad.

Pull the fuel rails up with the injectors intact, turn the key to the "on" position to pressure the fuel system (do not try and start it) and look for drips.

The coolant temp sensor only sets a code if its completely broken... open circuit or shorted. A scanner will allow you to watch the coolant temp as you start the car, to make sure the sensor is giving you an accurate temperature.
