I bought this 95 Formula with a blown head gasket. I drained the oil and got 8.5 quarts out of it! made a mess on the drive way as well. The car did run with that much. I thought it was not possible for this car to run with that much oil in it. I heard if too much oil was used the piston would break off. Is this true?

yes it is true that with to much oil you can have a engine lock from it, I've seen it!!! (30 qts in a 15 qt power stroke) . The question is was the engine running without a knock before you drained the oil ?? and also was there water in the oil when you first pulled the drain plug ?? water will sit on the bottom of oil

The motor was misfireing 7 and 6 so I could not tell if it was knocking. No water was at bottem. The water somehow mixed with the oil to make dark milky sludge. Really gross and foul smelling stuff.

then technicly.. you had 5 quarts of oil and 3.5 quarts of water in there due to teh head gasket.. never good. make sure you flush it out really really well when you put it back together

if it was running I would just run with it. get the heads resurfaced and new head gaskets flush out the radiator and make sure there's only 5Qts in it this time.
