Car is eating plug wires!!!

Well I just aquired a hesitation/miss. This started about 8 months ago. Car was running real bad in the snow. Opened the hood to find most of my MSD wires arching to anything metal or each other. So I replaced and replaced to no avail and even did the opti. Had the car towed (I was in OH at my parents and live in MI). They found the bosch o2s bad and changed to stock wires. Since I'm running headers we put some high temp sleeving over the wires and those high temp boots at the plug ends. Car was great until a month ago.

I noticed at stop lights the RPMs would kick down just a touch but it seemed to move alright off idle...didn't think much about it. A few days ago it started to miss pretty bad off idle and I found #4 is arching to the metal tie on the header wrap. For some reason the car keeps eating wires. I would have figured all the wraps and what not would have saved it...I guess not.

Is it really just the heat of the headers causing it to fail or is something else at fault here. Just looking for ideas. BTW this is an LT1 wagon. Thanks guys.

FWI I just spaced the ICM off the block, changed the fuel filter and the plugs are less than a year old (fact AC delcos), O2s are 8 months old. My craptop died so I can't log the car. Last I looked nothing looked tooooo out of the ordinary except I did have some split Long term BLMS

Oh I did convert over to a '96 style coil from my orig 95. not sure why that would cause a problem but I suppose with a new pigtail and 95 coil I could go back.

maybe its the brand of wires youre using. Ive heard some people arent too happy with the MSD wires cuz they will sometimes arc. try taylor or accel.

I've burned through both Taylor and Accel wires. Your best bet is to route them via OVC.

Try that.

No amount of heatshielding will protect it if it's actually touching the header. I had a metal shield on one of my wires that was touching a primary...I got a miss and checked it to see it had like melted the crap out of the plug wire and plug end.

What's the gap on your plugs? Have you checked them lately?

but thses help too

also have your car running when its dark out and have the hood open look for any sparks... this will let you know if there is an arc coming from the plug wires.
