Car dynoed untuned, how much to be gained by dynotune?
Numbers and mods in sig. A/F ratio was 11.0 across the board on the dyno. The shop says that they can get another 30 rwhp out of a tune after they bring that A/F ratio back up into the 13's. What do you guys think? My brother thinks I won't get that much so I figure I would ask the guys that know! Any imput appreciated, THANKS!

I gained 23 peak rwhp through tuning and much more down low. I was running way lean though. The numbers in my sig are with an AFR of 13.1 almost across the board.

If you guys are gaining about 20-30rwhp after tuning for the hotcam, does this mean that you only see about a 10rwhp gain with the hotcam BEFORE you get tuning? I guess I'm just wondering....when people says "I gained 30rwhp with the hotcam", this means that they got the hotcam kit, installed it, and tuned it, right?
Re: Car dynoed untuned, how much to be gained by dynotune?
I would be very surprised if someone gained 30rwhp from simply leaning out the PE AFR, even with a hotcam. To gain 30rwhp on a dyno, you'll probably be tweaking SA, too. I suppose the theorists among us, armed with computers and calculators, should be able to figure how much air the extra fuel is displacing at 11.0 vs 13.0. I doubt very much it would add up to enough air for an extra 30rwhp, even at high rpms.

In a word camming a car without tuning it is STUPID.
The stock tune is not the best for a stock motor why on earth would you think it right for a modded one.
Ask any knowledgable person if they would put a cam in a gen1 motor and then leave the carb alone and set the timing exactly back to stock, they would tell you that was stupid. And yet it is EXACTLY what you are doing when you leave the stock tune in for a modded motor. Do I make any sense?

Wow, you deffinately need a tune.... My car with a CAI/cutout/3.73's/2800 stall converter all on a stock tune (hypertech only for the gears) put down 262/297.
Re: Car dynoed untuned, how much to be gained by dynotune?
Oh and my Caprice with a heavier drivetrain(more losses) and a much smaller ZZ3 cam, modified intake(drilled airbox K&N panel and sewerpipe if you know any of our common mods), stock manifolds and cats to a good catback, this was also with 1.5 roller rockers, mailorder pcmforless 87octane tuning put down 260hp from 5400-5600. Had torque numbers around 270 but it was already falling couldn't keep it in 3rd at that low an rpm to get a peak reading. AFR was 12.5-13. Again this was just mailorder and 87 octane at that, and with a heavier drivetrain and heavy Impala rolling stock. Maybe that will make the point more clear. If you are not aware of the specs my cam is 208/221 .474/.510 with 1.5s, the HOT cam is 218/228 .525/.525 with 1.6.

Well im gettin it dynotuned in a couple of weeks so i guess we will see. Its really weird because my car trapped 107's with this A/F ratio and low numbers so im hoping it will make it alot better!

Ok well I called the dyno place and am having them dynotune it August 7th, which is in about a week. I was wondering if anybody wants to make any predictions??? Keep in mind it is a Mustang Dyno and the baseline is in my sig. Oh, he is also putting in a test pipe in place of the stock cat setup i have right now so that will be on there for the tune also. Just curious to see what you guys think. We'll see in a week!

Wow, those numbers are VERY low, even for a Mustang dyno, I know people dynoing that much with just a cut out and CAI. I dynoed 284 rwhp and 328 rwtq with only CAI, shorty headers, UD pulley, and 3" exhaust. Everything else was stock. I tuned it and gained exactly 8 rwhp, for a 292 rwhp and 340 rwtq. I would say something else is wrong besides your tuning if you only dynoed 265 rwhp.
