Car doesn't start... sometimes.

Edit: This is in my old 97 Z28 vert.

I have been having this problem for a while now, I turn the key and just hear a click while the voltage drops. It seems like the battery isn't pushing enough juice to turn the starter.

Most of the time, after trying about 5-10 times it starts. I thought it was a voltage problem, but today I was fooling around with it, and just turning the key a lot and it wasn't building up any voltage, and voila, it started. The starter seems a little slow too, it kind of makes that va vomp sound, then starts.

I need a few things to look for. The car has a new opti about 10k miles ago, and a new ignition solenoid about 25k ago. I changed the wires under the hood to 0 gauge, except the engine block ground. I used to have some car audio in there, but now its all gone.

Any advice?

Get a new starter. DO a search i had this problem before. Chased all kindsa wires. Its a starter issue. YOu turn the key and click, but no motor spinning. SO you turn the key on off on off on off on off and eventuially it catches and you start the car. Itll get worse and worse, it never got to where it wouldnt start for me, but i was worried every day till i got the new starter.

I picked up a rebuilt one from autozone for ai beleive around $200!! but its lifetime warrentied at elast. Also be careful hooking up the new wires. The first starter i got was either deffectice or its cra build quality on the solenoid. My buddy barely touched the nut on the heavy wie from the starter and the pin twisted right off. Check the black plastic area of the solenoid for cracks before you take it home!

Fun stuff... another $200. I am about to sell it, maybe I will look for a used one. What do you think?

Just a buy a new starter, dont cheap out or it will bite you in the ***. Believe me, my starter was crapping out and would do the same thing. Turn the key, voltage drops, car wont start. Just buy a new starter and save your self the hassle.
