car dies at stoplights!
car dies at stoplights!
I am getting any last opinions before, I change the fuel pump tomorrow. I hate this hit and miss crap! I changed the opti last week and the car ran flawlessly for 2 days. The engine runs perfect, except for the dying at lights. I am gonna check fuel pressure first. I have been having hard starting problems for a long time now, so I know a new pump will cure that, but what about my stallling problem. I have to rev it up to keep it from dying at lights. I'm not driving it till i get it fixed, since I got a ticket already for pulling off the road and parking in the wrong direction right before it died. Anyone think anything else can cause this? I want to this fixed this weekend. Thanks, Michael
Yes, the service engine soon light came on, multiple times. I am goin to try to get it scanned. Not sure, where to take it without getting charged a fortune for them to check it ($60) to look at it and hook it up to a computer. It was doing it when it was generally hotter. I am gonna flush the coolant system, since its full of dirt and I had no idea. Its real bad. I cant get it scanned at autozone cuz it doesnt work. I have an obd1 comp with obd2 plug. If I had a vacuum leak, wouldn't it idle roughly? it idles as smooth as can be.
You said it was your maf. Was your maf bad? I have another one, that I'll have to try. What does a stuck open egr valve look like? Thats prolly a self-explanatory question but oh well. I will check the vacuum hoses. I actually got a maf code when I took it into the dealer. I cleaned it off and put it back in. Do you think i need a new one? they told me that was the code that I threw and told me nothing more. I am gonna try that as well. That would save me a lot of work. Did your car run smoothly otherwise? please let me know. Thanks, Michael
I don't know what was wrong with MAF, but that's the code that I got when I scanned it. I descreened it, and haven't had a problem with it since. But, the car wasn't running smoothly anyway, I believe I have a stuck open EGR, but I'm having a problem on finding a place to get a new EGR.
I have cured the problem. It was my maf sensor itself. I have two and I switched them out. I am running good, except for the hard starting. Thanks to all for the help. I am in better spirits now that I got the z running again. I prolly ought to go drink some spirits with all the headaches i've had with the opti and other crap. Thanks a bunch guys! -Michael
Car runs like crap again. This time it isnt throwing any codes. It doing the same symptoms it did before I changed the opti. I am getting very frustrated. Oh well, guess i gotta waste another $70 to get the damn thing diagnosed again.
never endig
yuppers gonna watch this one im having the same problem,,,and i have checked and replaced certain parts and she is still hittin the 600 rpm at the light and sometimes stalling but she runs like a champ at wot ,,,,,,,,,,,,
Do your volts drop before it stalls? I have this same problem, but it only happens when I have the ac on, the electric fans come on, and have it in drive when stopped. My volts will start to drop and then feels like it's going to stall. I would like to know what is causing this as well. The rest of the time it runs fine. I also have the hard start from time to time.
Starting to have same problem here too. Replaced opti. And EGR. Descreened MAF cause it had a code. No MAF code now. No vac leaks found. After running for awhile, pull up to red light and stop, and every few seconds or so I get a dump in rpms you can feel inside the car. If the a/c is on it feels like it wants to die. I'm not rich, but make enough to have bought an OBD2 scanner from Pep Boys for $149 (price finally is dropping on these!!!) and with Msfyter (if he's registered on this board or might be Retyfsm) we're just gonna go down the list replacing everything as payday allows. I think spark plug wires are next cause the O2 sensors are gonna have to be taken off while on a lift. This condition has pissed me off to the point that I'll replace, over time, everything down to the last piston!!! I'll keep ya posted...
