Car dies once given more than 50% throttle

I am having a prblem with my car dieing if I puch it past 2500 rpms. It just starts popping than the rpms drop to zero and it shuts off. I can drive the car around on 1500 rpms with no problems for a short time but once the car starts to heat up a little ( 30 mins or so) it will start popping and dies at even 1500 rpms. I put in a new opti today but still have the problem, a month ago I put in new plugs and a coil ( but did'nt have this problem back then). Also about 2 weeks ago I replaced my 22lb injectors with 24lb injectors from the 94+ model LT1s. I was also told that this can be a tranny problem, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like your car is running ridiculously rich. Probably the injectors...

Thats what I thought too, at first! The car smells like gas when its running and when it dies it smells even more like gas. Ever since I bought the 24lb injectors (used) the problem started (about a week later). My stock 22s were leaking and caused the car to have hard starts, the 24s start up great but have bad air/fuel ratio mixes.

Get a tune for the 24# injectors. Talk to chips@pcmforless.com. He'll get you hooked up.

FWIW, on a 93, 24# injectors won't have too much bearing on the car, seeing as how the 22# stock injectors are being run at approximatly 23.7-9 anyway.

What's your fuel pressure doing during this stalling issue??? You can hook up a pressure gauge and stick it up against the windshield and drive it around.

catalytic converter? I'll try it! I'm thinking of just taking it off and running straight pipes to the muffler. MAP sensor, what are the symptoms of a bad map sensor? I need to hook up a fuel pressure gauge but have just wasted all my money on the opti, cap & rotor, o2s, IAC, Balljoints and other parts. I'm going to prime the fuel system and check for leaks. About the fuel pump, if it was the pump, woul'nt I have hard starts? What are the symptoms of a bad fuel pump?

Bad Fuel Pump -> Low fuel pressure, hard starts, consistant high rpm stumble (revs but feels like its hitting a wall and accellerates slowly above a certain rpm until it shifts)

I had a very similar problem. It was bad o2s.

I just put in o2s 2 weeks ago. I thought my o2 were bad but it made no difference in the performance of my car. Do you think I should pop in my old o2s and see if it fixes the problem? Before I had hard starts ( it ended up being the injectors), and changed the o2s, coil, and IAC with no difference. Do you think I some how clogged the new o2s with the bigger injectors in my car? Do you thinkn I clogged my catalytic converter? Toady I switched out my ols 22lb injectors but still had the same problems, so the bigger injectors cant be at fault.

I'm not saying it is your problem... but I had a similar problem and thought it couldnt be my O2s as they were like 1 month old, i put back the 90,000 mile originals and the problem went away

I've seen maby O2s broken from overtorqueing.

Mabye they werent 24s? are you sure they were the stock injectors?

Positive they were stock! I bought them from a board member who had it on his 95 Z. I'm going to switch out my old 02s and see what it does right after I replace my ICM. I was checking my ignition system when I found that the ICM was craked and was falling apart. I also spaced out the coil rack from the block and space the ICM and cooler away from the coil rack, it should help with heat. I know I did'nt break the o2s from over torquing, I probably did'nt torque them in hard enough which brings me to the thought of an exhaust leak, though I highly doubt something that small would cause car to shut off when I push the gas. I also seafoamed my car today and found that the problem stayed and realized that any time the car reaches 2500rpm or so it stumbles, misfires and shuts off. I did it at a stop while revving the motor.
