Car Dies, Ignition? Urgent
Car Dies, Ignition? Urgent
Alright, Hopefully Someone can help me out on this.
Car has been havign a problem of jsut dieing and then not starting. It would just die and then crank over for a long time and not start.
I could go out, Mess around with the ICM, Coil, And Opti Wire harness, and it would start up. Did this a couple of times.
Well tonight it died and I can not get it to start.
I tested the injector, Ground side, with no luck as in doesnt pulse.
Although, I test the White wire on ICM, or B I think, And I get 1.6 volts while cranking, But nothing at the green wire on the coil connector.
I now replaced he ICM, And nothing. Still dead.
The spark plugs look damp with fuel, So in theory, the opti is fine, since the injectors are putting out fuel
Whats the deal, Why is it dead still?

Re: Car Dies, Ignition? Urgent
To me it looks like you missed the forest through the trees. You checked some points on the ICM but did you pop out a few plugs and check for spark? You assumed the plugs being wet meant the opti was good, well maybe the encoders are feeding back the low resolution signal but that doesn't mean the high voltage section is functioning correctly.
You need to crank it over with a NEW plug attached directly to the coil and see if it sparks. If it does, put the new plug on a wire or two and see if it sparks there. You needn't remove any plugs from the engine to check this, just a wire or two from the plugs.
Obviously depending on what you find will dictate which way to go next.

Slowpoke has you on the correct track, I just thought I'd add that you should ground the sparkplug against the fender or something while youre checking for spark.
The opti will provide the pulses for the ECM to fire the injectors, and it provides the pulses to the ICM to energize and collapse the coil.

I have the same problem but mine is a a conversion to an 81 ta and i lost spark for some reason. I replaced the opti and icm with no luck. My injectors fire to. I'm goig to change the coil with a new msd unit. Let me know if u find anything.

Pull a spark plug... look for spark
Pull the plug wire off the opti that leads to the coil.. look for spark.
If you dont find spark at the coil or the opti.. its the coil or ICM. If you find no spark at the plug but you do in the wire leading off the coil... its your opti.
