Car Dies After Warm-up

My car died the other night driving home on the freeway. Earlier in the day the battery died and I replaced it. Towed car home - Battery and alternator check out good and fuel pressure is good. Car starts and runs fine until it warms up then it shuts down.

The engine light did NOT turn on so I do not know if it is throwing codes. I bought an ODB 1&2 scanner but it dose not work for my 95 which has the OBD 2 plug and OBD 1 SW. So I have not pulled any codes.

Any idea on what I am dealing with?

Thanks…

OBD1 vs. OBD2

Thanks Shoebox for the "Adapt a 12 pin OBD-I scanner to your 1995 16 pin DLC" link.

I will run those jumpers tonight and see if I can pull any codes.

hmm

does it stall out and die or does it just shut off?

if it stalls, check your plugs for a rich condition

if it just shuts off a good place to start would be the ignition module. they are known for getting hot and then failing. and when they cool it will work again...

stall vs shut off

It just shuts off and when I try to restart, it sputters, coughs, and sounds like it is trying to start up on 3 or 4 cylinders and will not start.

After it cools it runs and does not miss so I does not sound like the plugs are fouling.

Thanks....BMX Dad

Thank you Green 96 TA

I stopped at AutoZone on the way home last night and picked up an ICM.

It was a quick fix to replace the old one and it took care of my problem. Drove it hard for ˝ hour last night and drove 22 miles into work this morning and it runs perfectly.

It may be in my head but it feels like it has more power.

Thank you…..BMX Dad
