Car died on me!!

I took my car out for a little joy ride and I'm still trying to get the programming bugs out of it since my recent rebuild. I just was messing around and my car died on me. I cranked it over and nothing. Every once in a while it would cough like it was going to fire, but nothing. I pulled a plug, cranked, and no spark. I pulled the fuel rail off and cranked, no fuel. I heard if the opti goes, it cuts off the fuel supply also. But, I have had a lot of programs burned into my computer. Could my computer have fried or is it probably my opti? The car had been running funny after this last program install. It would run $hitty for a minute everytime I fired it up, even if I was just getting gas or something (warm or cold). It would clear up and drive fine, and then it would miss real bad about 4000 rpm. And sometimes it wouldn't. But, it didn't do this before the last program was put in there. What could this no spark, no fuel problem be???

Thanks,
Benji

Sounds like the opti went. The opti is responsible for injector and spark plug fire so it sure seems like your opti bit the dust. Id check to see if the connection from the harness is clean and tight before you tear it out though.

Is there any way to check the opti to make sure that it is the problem? I was going to have my tuner look at my computer to make sure everything was alright, but I haven't had a chance. The only thing that gets me is that it just started running bad after this last program install.

Scan for trouble codes.

Re: Car died on me!!

When the guy put the program in, I immediately starting getting a code for the Electronic Spark control. He said it wasn't too big of a deal. I was getting a lot of false knock at idle and he said that could have something to do with it. Does that help?

Thanks,
Benji

That should not keep the car from running and sounds like BS from the programmer. No self-respecting programmer is going to leave you with trouble codes, IMO. Assuming you mean DTC 43, your car will likely have timing retarded and not have the performance it should.

What you should look for is DTC 16. If current, it won't allow the engine to run, but does not set the SES.

He kept splicing programs. The programs were identical, but one would throw the code and the other wouldn't. The knock retard went away when I gave the car some gas though. I was running open headers, so it was understandable. But, is it my computer or my opti??
