car died last night, ignition switch?

I was pulling the car into the garage last night. It ran fine. So I restarted it a few minutes later to reposition it, ran for a few seconds then dies instantly. When turning the key to the run position I get no dash response, no nothing. Car doesn't crank, and the radio doesn't work in any of the turn-key positions. So, did I lose my ignition switch?

If you don't get any dash lights and your headlights still work, probably the switch or connection to it. My Tech Page has a guide for replacing it, if needed.

Yeah, I just got done reading that. Thanks. You've got a great site.
So, do you find it odd that the radio isn't working at all? Also, I noticed on your page you said you had "symptoms" like the motor dying. I had no warning whatsoever, that I know of. It just.....went.

Re: car died last night, ignition switch?

Well, I went after the ignition switch last night and had the column out of the car in less than an hour. The blue connector looked like it got a little hot. Not really deformed but a couple of the terminals were a little scorched. So does that pretty much confirm that the switch got hot and failed? I popped all the wires out of the connector and cleaned them and bent them back to have a little more "spring" in them, so I dont believe I'll need a new connector. I'm gonna get the switch ordered today so maybe I'll get to drive this car for more than 2 days this month.

Re: car died last night, ignition switch? - UPDATE!

Woo F'n Hoo! Ig switch did the trick. Fired right up and runs ten times better than it has in the past six months or so. Idles and revs much much smoother. So I guess I did have symptoms from this thing going out. I just didn't attribute them to that switch. Was chasing down other "problems" that weren't there. Oh well.
Thanks a bunch Shoe Box. You rule.
