Car died, Had to have it towed, Igniton switch failed
New Years day went grocery shopping, went out to start car and nothing. All power accesories worked fine but I figured I would start with the simple things.
Checked all fuses, under hood and in dash, fine. Tryed a jump start, no help.
Had car towed $85.00 and took a guess on the problem, figured not a VATS problem since it was bypassed. Didnt think starter problem since it made no noise what soever when trying to start. Replaced ignition switch on top of steering column $20.00, back on the road again.
The main thing I noticed when car was dead, the cluster was dead also, but everything else worked.
After doing repair I did some research and found that a dead cluster is the main symtom of a defective ignition switch.
Sorry to make this so long, but I wanted to post this, if someone is having a no start condition and every thing works except the cluster, its probably the ignition switch.

When you say the cluster was dead, do you mean the instument panel including the lights weren't working?
My car ran great then one day on the freeway it totally died. Turns over but just won't start. I was thinking more on the line of a bad coil or ignition module.
Thanks.

The instrument cluster was dead, no lights no gauges.
My car would not turn over to start.
If your car will turn over but not start, probably not the ignition switch.
