car is back on the road with 847 and ported heads
running strong with 847 and ported heads(thanks Ion at madz28 and lloyd elliott)
Got it running friday and got it on the road last night, the roads are a little wet so I can't really see how it runs. But it lopes, it cranks really fast, and it sounds like I have a quiet supercharger with all the air flowing through my cai. ** thanks, to madz28 for the tune which fired right up and is running great** also Lloyd Elliott for porting my intake he did a great job and both of them have answered a boat load of questions for me. Lloyd says that I have my rockers set to tight though I have stock lifters with 1.6 rr and I turned them 1/2 turn past zero he says to go 1/8 to 1/4 and it will crank the rpm's better. So I'll probably do that in a few days. I took off down here at our old hometown marked off 1/4 mile and had no first gear due to traction, got it to shift to second and it slugged a little cause I was barely moving It came into it at about 4000 and climbed quick I hit the rev limiter bumped it into drive and still crossed the line at a little over 90 mph. Just the sound of the cam is worth the $2500 I've spent on this project I've always wanted it to sound like an old muscle car and with the cam, long tubes, x pipe, 3" duals and bullets it sounds great.

Re: car is back on the road with 847 and ported heads
I sure will, I'm trying to locate a dyno in southern ohio right now that I can go to then after I dyno it I'll send the computer back to Ion and get it updated then its off to the track. I think it actually sounds meaner than it is, but I wont know till I get the data.
Re: car is back on the road with 847 and ported heads
Well the roads were dry today and this thing pulls super hard I still dont have first or second gear from a dead stop due to my street tires spinning but pulling from 40-100mph there is a total s.o.t.p. improvement it pulled almost hard enough today to scare me kind of like my crotch rocket sometimes does. I'm going to do my valve adjustment tomorrow and I should gain more power up top because I have slight valve float at 6600-6700rpms I'll keep you guys up to date. I know I always liked reading about someone who just got new mods. later
Re: car is back on the road with 847 and ported heads
I'm going to try as fast as I can. I got to get the rockers adjusted. Modify my car traile so the car will go on it since I lowered the car. Then wire my truck up for a trailer. Then head to a dyno, then send the computer back, then hit the track, man is that it??? It might take a little while. My rearend has held 1.7 60 ft times but now I'm worried. later

I love the cam, I have it in my 383 and we are putting it in my freinds 94 T/A with about the same exact mods as you. With the CC305 he ran mid 12s with crappy 60 foots, I cant wait to see how it runs with this cam.
Re: car is back on the road with 847 and ported heads
any videos? putting a very similar cam in my car right now, and just heard a friends car with the 847 cam, i really like the radical idle..its on 112 lsa right?
were you running it hard the day after you got it together? what about break in time..

Re: car is back on the road with 847 and ported heads
yes a 112 lobe separation, the idle is pretty radical but I have the 3" duals with x pipe and bullets with turn downs at the rear end. I ran the cam up to about 2500 rpms for about 10 to 15 minutes. Then took it out the next day and drove it hard exactly like I always will I used to work at a dealer ship and we redone some motors especially in police cruisers and they wanted us to break them in above 2000 rpms then take the cars out and run them like we stole them because thats what the cops will do so If it wont hold together with me driving then it probably wont hold with the cops driving. Its almost like a dirt bike or atv buy 2 exactly the same at the same time ride one easy all the time and run the other wide open all the time for about 6 months then I guarantee if you race them the one that was ran hard will beat the other by at least 3-4 bike lengths. I've got to be careful I almost wrecked it tonight it used to go straight and spin through 1st and 2nd, now you have no idea which way the rearend is going to go when it shifts to second I let off and was still fighting the steering wheel to get it straightened out, but man I love it.
Re: car is back on the road with 847 and ported heads
I'm about 64 miles east of cincinnati. I'm not sure if youve been that way before but when I go to the track I go to edgewater, or tristate, and then if you know where xenia is which is close to dayton there kilkare, I'd like to meet up with some guys on the board here sometime like altjar and whoever else is in ohio and get my car on a dyno and go to the track together that'd be cool.
Re: car is back on the road with 847 and ported heads
There are a few dyno places here in cincy. I need to get mine back on the dyno after I make some adjustments. If you shoot me an PM/email we could prolly get scheduled at the same time and save a little. I'd be happy to dial in the tune if you want, little easier than sending it back and forth to Ion.
Re: car is back on the road with 847 and ported heads
sent you a pm hopefully we can get them dyno'd together. Is your motor a stroker now I havn't heard anything other than you had your motor out a while back. later
Re: car is back on the road with 847 and ported heads
As long as the cam is oiled and the valvetrain adjusted correctly a hydraulic ROLLER cam needs no true break in period.

Yes its 383/AFR heads and a single plane.
Hit the dyno once and did some major tuning on it. First pull was crap 37x. Finally got the AF right and it made 401, but at only 5500 rpm. After that t fell sharply off. Car was pulling timing bad and i couldnt tell if it was real or not so i didnt push it. I need to make some other adjustments to little things and then go and see if i can find a missing 30-40 hp.
