cam is different, but I think most other parts are the same, the accessory brackets are a little different too

You could use the block yes, they're identical in that regard.

Here ya go...

There was also the "Baby LT1," the 265 cid version that was the standard engine in the Caprice from 1994-‘96. With all that in mind, let’s take a look at this family of engines and see what goes where.

BLOCKS
265 - There was only one block used for the 265 cid version of the LT1. It’s a 10168588 casting that had the numbers "4.3" cast on the side, too. It’s real easy to spot if the heads are off because of the small 3.74" bore.

Yeah as long as you know its a 350 then its all the same from there on. A buddy of mine bought a LT1 350 out of a Roadmaster, had it rebuilt and is running it in his car right now with the aluminum heads. The only other thing that is different is the waterpump and the crank hub and oil pressure sensor behind the intake so youll need to take them off your old motor.

Re: Caprice LT1 Vs. Z28 LT1

If you get the motor from a Roadmaster, a wagon or a Fleetwood those all had the LT1 as standard, with rumors of just one wagon with the L99 there is much less to worry about in getting a motor from one of these if you are worried about getting a 4.3L instead of the LT1 you want.
These are all the same LT1 as the Impala got, boneyards tend to put a price premium on Impala motors to take advantage of the ignorant so you probably don't want to search one of those out.

I would get a block out of a Vette. That way, you have four bolt mains instead of the f-body two bolt mains.

Have you done even the slightest amount of power the 2 bolt can take? The fact that you even brought it up is proof you have not. Besides with the way you would get gouged for a Vette block and by the time 4 bolt genuinely becomes a good idea you would be better off with an aftermarket conversion.

In order of progressively more torque potential, I'd go with the OEM 2 bolt, OEM 4 bolt, OEM 2 bolt with straight 4 bolt conversion, and the strongest, the splayed 4 bolt conversion for 2 bolt block.

Where would you rank a studded 2 bolt?
